About
Amy Ingalls
Who is Amy Ingalls?
Amy Ingalls is a visual artist based in Washington, DC working across mixed media and digital forms. Her practice is attentive to atmosphere, built environments, shifting seasons, and the surreal charge that can emerge from familiar places.
What work does Amy Ingalls make?
Amy Ingalls works in three primary series. The Washington, DC series consists of mixed media digital works depicting the National Gallery Sculpture Garden across seasons and atmospheric conditions, combining layered digital texture with surrealist imagery rooted in Washington, DC civic spaces. The Architectural Sketches series consists of graphite pencil drawings on cream-white textured paper depicting impossible, Escher-inspired structures—buildings, towers, and courtyards that fold back on themselves in ways that cannot exist in physical space. The DC Alt Realities series consists of graphite pencil drawings reimagining Washington, DC landmarks—the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial—as speculative alternate architectural forms.
